- We have joined the Tiaki Promise, a Tourism NZ program to educate our visitors in caring for New Zealand for now and future generations. Maori principles of Kaitiakitanga (guardianship of our whenua or land, a different concept to ownership), Manaakitanga (hospitality) form the basis of the program.
- Appliances are sourced based on energy and water efficiency
- Waste is minimised by composting, sorting and recycling
- Mulch from our garden is used for soil improvement. Waste wood and pruning supplement fuel for our wood fire
- Our small business engages the services of many locals in construction trades, garden and arborist trades and hospitality contributing economically to our community
- Low energy lighting used in the Lodge and suites. LED lighting used throughout the Lodge where feasible
- Guests choose their cleaning preferences on a daily basis
- Green cleaning products used wherever possible
- Flowers are grown at the Lodge and used for floral displays in suites and around the Lodge
- We support and encourage guests to visit local suppliers and local offerings around Taupo
- Solar power lighting used externally in the garden where appropriate
